Kilian Kerner is one of Germany’s famous fashion designers. We had seen last year’s collection – which was great—so we were curious as to what would walk down the runway this year.
Inspired by "stories from a diary” –an anonymous five entries in English--- or as Timm Süßbrich-sales manager of Kerner’s showroom rep, Deluxe Distribution explained to us, the apparel is a reflection of “one special situation…an encounter with one special person…”
We felt we were viewing two different shows…a tale of two cities…
…as the ladies’ looks were sophisticated, posh separates and dresses made of stunning fabrics like silk, silk jersey, cotton, and leather…
…while the men’s looks were mostly dark toned casual, for all the young dudes (short jackets, to the knee slim shorts) or urbane office ready (white button downs Oxford shirts, dark blue, charcoal sharp shoulder, short-and long suit jackets-some without lapels, tailored trousers, )
---the guys garb reminded us of apparel conjured up by Victorinox and Thom Browne.
Honestly, the male equivalent of tight Bermuda shorts is an item of clothing that doesn’t sell well in the States…we think sometimes it ventures into that overgrown schoolboys. But we are sure Europeans love it.
Naturally, we loved the feminine options. The show started with the band Mor/La/Peach performing what we call Euro Pop (singer, guitarist and taped soundtrack).
Then the RTW started down the catwalk…with a drop dead gorgeous gold jumpsuit …that’s also featured in the Lookbook (pictured).
Other top ladies looks included the dresses…both the long billowing evening gowns in white and metallic gold, and a stunning olive green delicately layered silk chiffon cocktail frock.
There was also a lacy patterned sheer coverup over solid black frock that exemplifies Kerner’s abilities to refresh the wardrobe staple LBD.
And a striking circle pattern nicely used on a sheer black top....
And because we took the time to visit the showroom, we were able to see the pony skin laser cutouts of halter blouse that was shown with a black suit with a peaked shouldered jacket (and also similarly embellished at the elbows)--- over fitted above the knee bottom.
TOP PICK:… a crisp white tailored shirtdress that was handsomely belted. This is a classic to wear everywhere.
Skinny high waist leather trousers and an adorable metallic leather mini skirt are both seasonless and versatile.
A cropped green leather modified biker jacket- is really one of the better examples of this popular look that we’ve seen.
In general, Kerner's S/S 2010 is modern and classic…and well made attire. We also heart the satchels and belts…collaboration with Anja Bruhn.
SPECIAL NOTE: The esteemed ceramics manufacturer and Sponsor Villeroy & Boch crafted the catwalk out of durable gleaming tiles.
