HAIR& MAKE-UP@ SUZANNE RAE and IRINA SHABAYEVA S/S 2011

New York Fashion Week at Suzanne Rae Words/Images Judith Ecochard Meatpacking District NYC September 9th 2010 Fashion Weeks are instantaneous gratifiers---thanks to live streamed, web cast shows, the social media hordes, and buy what you like now with a credit card---at the upcoming S/S 2011 Burberry show, for example---and soon to be ubiquitous IMHO. And the make-up. Accessible, affordable, fun and if done right, everyone looks great---no matter your clothing size. Even customized colors for a collection can be had with a bit of blending what's out there. We pay a lot of attention to makeup and hair trends during Fashion Weeks and so far for S/S 2011 in the Big Apple, the deep dark fake tans of last season’s Spring/Summer  2010 shows---that romped the runway or struck poses on a presentation platform…are NOT HERE THIS SEASON . Though a dark hue will probably be sprayed on bathing suit catwalkers at Gottex and Rosa Cha,  showing at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, L...

UNITED BAMBOO: Fall/Winter 2010

Altman Building, West 18 th Street. NYC Words, Images Judith Ecochard /Lyramag.com Though thirties inspired collections aren’t novel…”getting” the glam elegance of the more adventuresome side of that decade …and making it wearable and modern is tough.  Thuy Pham and Mike Ankh ‘s United Bamboo Fall 2010 RTW collection referenced that decade’s globe trotting gals’ (Amelia Earhart)—and gave us attire that is polished perfection personified. And since we still wear a silk gold United Bamboo skirt we got about five years ago, we think this outing will easily fall into that timeless classic MO. We saw stunning tailored skirt suits, skirts made from silk with female curves defined by bows, draped dresses  Chic black overcoats that like menswear, can go over everything --- paired with opera/bracelet length, leather gloves, Silk blouses, (inclu...

CYNTHIA ROWLEY: FITTED AMERICAN SOPHISTICATION

SPRING 2009 RTW FOR MODERN GAL GROWN-UPS WITH A NEED TO DRESS AND OWN THE LOOK Words, Images Judith Ecochard September 10th, 2008-West Chelsea, NYC We have a Cynthia Rowley dress from one of her early summer collections-that snazzed up a drab but functional wardrobe on our European pack backing sojourn that lasted 4 months. We have never gotten more compliments, in more countries, for any garb we have ever worn (and still wear)…including an Athenian declaring, “…you Americans make the best dresses.” WE recounted this story for Cynthia Rowley in the flesh, backstage prior to her RTW runway show…she- a polished, very pretty and very cool fashion veteran. Us- salivating over the amazing buffet courtesy of Bridgewaters To Go, gawking at the fab Bobbi Brown working her magic, and awed how relaxed Ms. Rowley seemed without a hair out of place and a warm smile for all. We also promise ourselves (and CR) an update to our wardrobe with one of those yummy dresses from her Spring 2009 assortm...
