DISTANCE ELITE-Newton® Running Shoes-Review

NYC Maybe it was the brrr anticipation of doing a long training run-starting under a frigid 7PM night's sky-with the wind chill bringing the outdoors feel to -10ºF…and all those layers, ugh…that we maybe had a brain freeze and wore our brand new pair of Distance Elite running shoes by our go-to brand, Newton-instead of our usual multi-mileage trainer, the heavier Distance kicks. Of course, by the time we got to Central Park, the hard top-and more or less dry surface we run on-was devoid of human/animal activity except for the occasional appearance of NYPD in their patrol cars, a few ice skaters on the north/south ends of the Drive, a massive raccoon the size of a baby dinosaur…and a woefully under-dressed guy- newly arrived from Senegal- who asked for directions-to the Bronx (yikes). Left-Distance, middle two-Distance Elite, right MV3-the Distance have more overlays on the breathable mesh upper Point being -for our 2:50 hours run…well the foot ride was as impact protecti...

Holiday Gifts-For Gals On The Run

Athletically inclined females are eager for more stuff or experiences that help them pursue their passions and PR goals. Pounding through sneakers-considered 'done' after about 30-35 hours of wear (not miles)…a pair of kicks or gift card to a fav brand for us---will get used before the new year even gets going. Newton-Distance Elite Racing Shoe Selecting a sneaker- THAT means=personal preferences to consider…but it's a great way for the someone to try new models from a trusted label. Naturally inclined running types-should check out the new Newton Distance Elite Racing Shoe-clocks in at 7.2oz (M), 6.2oz(W). Technologically speaking-it merges the race-like MV3 ( review ) and a 2mm drop-with more forefoot cushioning found in other Newton Trainers (4 lugs). Similarly though-is the fast drying mesh upper, asymmetrical lacing system, welded support strapping over the mid foot... $155-we look forward to reviewing. We find ourselves wearing kicks even off the clock-...

Newton Running Shoe MV3 Review-Summer 2013

Transition area post race-def neater than our closets-with bright pink/yellow lime MV3.  We've been Newton Running shoe worshipers for several years---and thus very keen to try out the new MV3 fast performance race shoe-with a zero drop profile (3mm lift optional)---that's embedded with the Newton DNA that got us wearing the brand to begin with. Weighing in at a mere 5.2 ounces (women's, 5.4 ounces-guys)- these are incredibly light kicks---noticeably so vs the 6.8 ounce Distance Lighweight Neutral Performance Trainer   we usually train in and use for half-Iron/half marathon or less distances.  The midsole EVA foam lugs part-is more apparent initially---and had the effect- a desirable one---of having us lean a teeny tiny tad- a bit more forward.  When we just went out for an easy 4 mile trial run-we run on paved trails through NYC parks...it felt like we had nothing on our feet-but we still noticed enough of a  sponge-y, spring-off energy return/hi...

RUNNING Shoes by Newton, La Sportiva 2013

Middle left-women's Terra Momentum -an everyday base training shoe for hitting the pavement+mountain trails $149-men's version middle right.   Distance S 's ($155) up top for fast pace running-lightweight stability NYC Right off, we have to put out there-that we've been running in Newton's---since 2009---and we met co-founder/CTO Danny Abshire-years ago at one of its first retail accounts in Manhattan. Distance U lightweight performance trainer $155 different outsoles---for different kinds of runners/distances/workouts Since then the 'all-natural' meaning zilcho cushioning for training shoes (not meaning purist running flats for shortish races and speed work)...has given way to a more modified minimalist approach in running shoes---with some strategic energy returning cushioning in key spots- ...but still with the emphasis on encouraging good efficient running form/mechanics...a cadence of 170-190 steps a minute and proper posture. ...
