PORTS 1961 RTW PRE SPRING 2011

TIA CIBANI FUSES “ROCKER’S POETRY WITH URBAN EDGE” WORDS/IMAGES Judith Ecochard/LYRAMAG We knew we were going to love this collection as soon as the lights dimmed and a sad (for us) B/W film emerged on a suspended screen…with Patti Smith’s distinct voice languidly reciting poetry on the soundtrack… against the flickering downtown NYC skyline of the late 70’s. Growing up in NYC, Patti Smith (and the album HORSES) was a massive influence on our psyche… …in fact, we still can’t believe that one of our earliest memories (1971) was when our amazingly progressive parents corralled the entire family, on a school night no less, to see Patti Smith and Sam Shepard read their jointly written Cowboy Mouth at The American Place Theater---an off Broadway venue. THE SHOW: Ports 1961 stuck close to home in this outing…we felt it was a very New York collection…certainly urbane in feel with a palette of black, white, grey solids, graffiti prints, and with some brilliant electric blue. ...
