We attended a benefit for the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation after a stomach churning day in the financial markets - last November. Anxiety aside, we were very impressed with the dedication and fierce commitment of attendees, volunteers and employees (let alone the stellar entertainment by Steely Dan and the millions of $ raised)…

…that we were very less than thrilled when a bump off a flight delayed our return to New York…and a missed opportunity to reconnect.

Happily, The annual summer benefit for the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation went a whole lot smoother than flying commercial. Not surprisingly, the soiree was crowded--- with guests nibbling on chef’s tastings from the Hampton’s tastiest restaurants, rolling the dice for Lady Luck at casino tables, and generously bidding on silent and live auction items- that generated an impressive $265,000 for this non-profit.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Samuel Waxman highlighted the work the Foundation is currently accomplishing— (and we quote from the release)…developing treatments to successfully address breast cancer, particularly the form that devastatingly affects young women, and to examine and resolve the reasons why cancer re-occurs within patients once it has been successfully cured. Through the encouraging research that the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation has conducted in their mission to cure cancer, Dr. Waxman looks forward to promising prospects, closing his address, “It keeps me young and passionate to see such an exciting future ahead.”

FYI: The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization focusing on one of the most promising strategies for developing cures and treatments for many types of cancer; even offering hope for preventing cancer from developing. It is on the cutting edge of a revolution with alternatives to the traditional treatments of chemotherapy and radiation, which kill cancer (and healthy) cells. Foundation supported research includes reprogramming chaotically growing cancer cells to behave normally and understanding cancer stem cells’ ability to spread and resistance to treatment. The results will lead to precisely targeted treatments or preventatives having minimal side effects on the recipients.
