As soon as we got off the elevator, we were swept away by the delicious, heady aroma--- from the most gorgeous flowers we have ever seen.
A good omen---this was our first ever Talbot's preview...
...and although we knew enough about the label to recommend it as a wardrobe option for a lawyer gal pal of ours, a petite size 2...(tailored clothes for her $50,000 plus worth of accessories)...
We had no idea how well this contemporary label could take some of the key trends from last season (the über feminine Mad Men influenced--- found in several Designer's Fall 2010 collections like Marc Jacobs) and re-interpreted it for their customer. PLUS: contemporary wear that has some polish.
Clothes for all one's moods...
Led by Chief Creative Director Michael Smaldone, who has toiled at Anne Taylor, Anne Klein and the Banana Republic...
Talbots is re-invigorating its entire lines---footwear, accessories, and apparel...
A new ad campaign with Julianne Moore---we think will re-capture the DNA of the company---incorporated in post WWII America company (since 1947)--- with fashionable offerings that pay homage to Parisian elegance.
Eyelash tweed jacket $239
---casual daywear and Palm Beach chic swim cover-ups...
--- Tasteful evening wear gets a glam send-off for Spring 2011.
While the curvy full skirts and dresses are not to our tastes...they were well done.
Swing coats, cropped trousers, polo sweaters, pleated swing skirts---in a sweet palette of chartreuse, marzipan, sweet almond...as well as the basic neutrals and, an animal print silk...and feminine floral prints.
We really liked the fitted styles---particularly the sheaths, pencil skirts, and the belted shorts. Also---a trench and topcoat, available in a rainbow of colors.
The accessories were sleek...waist cinching braided belts ($59), Dina pointy toe pumps and Libbie chunky-heel city sandals ($149 each)---in leather, snake embossed and patent finishes,
....sling-backs, frilly slides...
And the sling handbags, flap top satchels and hobos were well done...various leather and natural rafia textures, hefty hardware...
Size wise, Talbots is all-American, offering Petite to Plus Sizes---in full American cuts...(and we do mean full, the hips widths are significantly bigger, proportionately, than comparable European sizes).
FYI:
Real humans staff the customer service telephones, so getting one's correct size is made that much easier.
Spring merchandise starts shipping January 2011.
