LUXE SUNGLASSES/De Rigo Vision S.p.A. CHOPARD, CELINE, GIVENCHY, ERMENEGILDO ZENGA

and House Brand POLICE

MARR INTERNATIONAL GROUP PRESS EVENT

MORGANS HOTEL

It's been said that the shoes make the man- but we think a flip flops' wearing guy (or gal) adorned with a pair of sunglasses from the several selections we saw at this preview...

Would look well accessorized and make an impact at first sight, in a manner of speaking.

Luxury sunglasses get serious attention in some circles---and given the stunning, high end examples by the exclusive maker De Rigo Vision from Italy---know for their innovative designs, materials, and tip top production methods...

...we would venture to say that that this part of getting dressed up has more style. shape/ form/material options than ever.

What was amazing to us, besides the obvious luxurious quality---

Is the craftsmanship. Elegant...and true to the DNA of each of the licensed brands.

Take for example the subtly ornate to blingy Swiss luxury watchmaker/jewelry/fragrance brand Chopard, tasteful--- yet impact making/ bold hinges that counts as a decorative accessory par excellence in our minds. (Low to mid $400s topping out at $600s)
Here the hand details (stones individually placed---) are incredible ---the colors reflect their jewelry and watch collections.. Best selling sunglasses are gold plated...and the flexible hinges, conjured up by a dedicated design team in Italy---are unique.
Trendy shapes-with a natural balance between the frames and the photochromatic lenses lenses,

With the French luxury brand Celine---the raved about S/S 2011 RTW- helmed by the much admired veteran designer/creative director Phoebe Philo---gets a resort assortment pf what we call chic retro- modern lenses, very crisp...80's references.

Neutrals and fun colors--with bits of neon for clean, cool profiles... ($300s)

Our top picks belong to everything Givenchy offers. The architectural elements---both simple/clean to art deco/geometric--- all immensely sophisticated hinges and side elements...($250-$280)

---render the need for any other adornment obsolete. Modern, edgy FABULOUS. These are the shades one can wear with whatever designer Riccardo Tisci showed on the glam runway.

PLUS: these sunglasses are the ideal shield against the world. safely---  matter what the eyes look like underneath. The wrap-around models, a nod from the sportsworld---can be worn by men or women. Our top looks include the art deco-like sunglasses,,,

The sunglasses will make the outfit...even if it's more Old Navy than haute couture.

Handsome, elegant and masculine (unisex), Zegna attires the modern international man on the move, --- with style. We loved the featherweight lenses using spaceship worthy materials (Microtene on the temple)...sophisticated function.

Priced around $300---the aviators adorned George Clooney in the suspense thriller The American.

POLICE is a house brand that was huge in Europe when we lived there. It has a solid following across the Pond...but we think rebranding will have to happen here because the American market has no affinity for the label---an IMHO the name is a challenge.

For 2011...the light weight shades dabbed into the archives for metal frames---with new lenses. Priced $120-$180...we think the brand is solid---and the packaging-embossed leather cases-is very nice.

The sunglasses are dressed up/sporty in feel and priced similar to high end Ray Bans---completely right for the quality and market target---guys in their teens to thirties, we think.
