JUAN CARLOS OBANDO Autumn/Winter 2011-12

EYEBEAM Gallery,

Titled BABEL, Juan Carlos Obandi's presentation featured slowly strolling models, one by one, in a smoky atmospheric setting...a dramatic surreal journey, in a way.

With all the ghostly overtones of one of his inspirations for this collection: the thriller movie, "The Others."

Also citing the high energy rockers-the Brooklyn based band, The National--- and the rock bands Queen and Kiss for their "theatrical voltage..."

We thought the dresses absolutely captured the Victorian essence of that Nicole Kidman star vehicle---with soft flowing dresses, the fitted skirt (above) with a shell top...and the plunging v-neck back on this shimmering fitted dress...perfect for modern days/nights...

And were were even reminded of Kiss black makeup on their faces---with these  black cutout details on the items...

...and sparkling elements courtesy of Swarovski elements + foil leather.

Well thought out---even if it did take us a few minutes to actually see the clothes even when the models stopped under the spotlights.

Most of the collection was cocktail or black tie finery---and really season-less.

We loved the red carpet worthy looks the best...the draping, subtle ruffles...and fishtail hems.
