THE ALMA SALON & SPA NYC

38 East 21st Street

When we venture out of our ‘hood two times in a week to review a salon…it’s because there is something very special going on.

Our first visit to the Flatiron district/located Alma Salon, in a pouring rain- didn’t exactly inspire a perfect hair day…

But chat we did, with Elion-the manager and cousin of Albanian native Alma Qeraxhiu.

Located 11 years in this location-convenient to all the modeling agencies nearby that seem to have this place on speed dial---judging by who we saw walking in---and out…

Alma is acclaimed for luxe locks…via hair extensions, transforming hairstyles that take into consideration of gal’s lifestyle, skin tone, shape of the face "to have hair they can manage," and the all- natural hot oil treatment-affectionately coined by actress Keri Russell- “ALMATIZED” ---that’s also available in a dropper supplied, take-home bottle.

Made of pure oils (olive, tea tree, argan), sea pear --- and completely chemical free (“...just not having paraben doesn’t make you green...” )
…the recipe of this product is inspired by “our own grandmother who had long shiny, dark hair---using very pure extra olive oil and egg yolk.”

AND easy to use---we took a pump full and massaging it in our hair from scalp to roots... letting the shower steam us away for a few minutes before rinsing. Verdict---glossy, shiny hair.

Our second visit began with a relaxing and ultimately reviving mini-facial with Lourdes, an aesthetician  with golden fingers---who used the seaweed based Repechage products on our visage.

Emerging relaxed and glowing, we then had our hair expertly styled by Alma who filled us in on her amazing journey as an immigrant to New York---without financial means but brimming with determination.

PLUS: the very experienced color sensibility of this woman is probably just another reason modeling agencies trust their locks in her hands...

We got plenty of info on how different red, brunette and blonde hair behaves ----as in:

"Red hair is very strong powerful, if you are red , you are committed as it's tough to maintain."

"...getting rid of red is like getting rid of a terrible boyfriend..."

"Women with a lot of ash need a golden base...lowlights to take away from dark circles under the eyes."

"Brunettes, especially with gray hair, can end up with black hair---should get a paint job of warmer tones to break up the swath of dark color....and sometimes lowlights to add dimension."

"Hair color should be dimensional, not like shoe polish....it should be natural...and fun."

Alma also believes the neck is the most sensuous part of any woman, no matter--- what else. Even clients with long hair can reveal that area..."(to) make sure the face looks open."

Lastly, we got the best advice ever from this dynamic gal...

"If you trust your hair person ...you stick with them like a doctor." AGREE.
