Even if one isn’t a global shopper, there are certain boutiques in certain locales that are truly on the must do bucket list… extensions of their owner’s unerring eyes for fashion, design and art, exquisite taste, and knack for stocking the shelves with a distinct point of view.
Think Colette/Paris, Corso Como/Milan.
Recently, we got a stunning glossy magazine that serves as the catalogue for Berlin based 14 OZ. ---a multi-story emporium of apparel and accessories…with “an honest dedication to high-quality manufacturing…icon pieces for your wardrobe that will stay with you for a long time.”
‘Curated’ by owner Karl-Heinz Muller, the leading light of the fab Bread & butter GmbH…
Having attended that amazing trade show, we know the ginormous number of labels that are on display- two times a year.
So we were very curious as to what brands got the nod from seemingly every casual/contemporary apparel brand on the planet.
LOVED---the inclusion Levi’s, Filson and Frye---three of our top American companies---and as the case with the first two, offering limited collaborations. 14 Oz, cherry picks the finest classics for its customers.
We are most interested in---the collaborations between the quintessential denim brand PRPS and 14.OZ…
AND
English shoemaker Trickers and 14 Oz...solid leather, solidly constructed, works with what's in any man's wardrobe, IMHO.
Reminding us of the USA based Opening Ceremony…aka reason enough to check the store out.
PLUS: cult favorite European labels…here 14 Oz. introduces us to Germany’s Merz. b. Schwanen and its want them all, long and short-sleeved jerseys based on original garments from the 20’s-40’s…and STILL made in the German Swabian Mountains---on the original knitting machines.
Another collection- is by the British Nigel Cabourn---his menswear celebrates exacting workmanship and unique fabrics---in the brand’s casually posh jackets in silky linen like jackets and matching vests, and terrific functional/fashionable parkas made tough---in Scotland. All with the proper amount of slouch and polish.
Ladies blouse maker Aglini’s –from Italy, conjures up amazingly versatile ruffled pinstripe long sleeve shirts, and lovely bowed, short puffed sleeves that could be worn with flair…with jeans or in a more formal- tailored business suit.
With exemplary customer service, accommodating hours (Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.)---
Located in a beautiful traditional European structure, graciously modernized…hint: check out the second floor private dressing rooms...
