A MIDSUMMER’S NIGHT DREAM

“Fairies and Nymphs that inhabit the woods, rivers, mountains, seas, meadows and trees of the world”

After a Fall 2010 debut that showed off her crafty skills, (feathers galore)---Project Runway Season Six winner Irina Shabayeva moved a giant step forward, editorially speaking, with an enchanting, mostly eveningwear collection of beautiful gowns and dresses.

We let out a wow as soon as soon as we walked into the plush turn of the century (meaning 20th) inspired The Griffin club in the Meatpacking District.

Models posed in lush silks, embellished organza and frothy silk chiffons artfully draped, some kimono inspired…

Long gowns worthy of the Red Carpets of Hollywood and Cannes included several hand detailed, tiered satin organza ones…that we felt were wedding worthy.

We had a nice chat with Shabayeva…

The designer also pointed to a knockout ball gown with floral crystals and cutouts---that took hours for all the hand details to be sewn flawlessly…as emblematic of her work.

No wonder a growing customer base requesting custom wedding gowns---is, well growing.

Two of our top looks:

A grey chiffon frock with delicate cap sleeves, perfectly draped swaths of fabric like an extended shawl collar--- with side tucks…flattering, very sophisticated...and a pleated tucked one, shoulder chiffon=== colors that works on everyone.

Kudos: Hair by Rodney Cutler and Make-up by Kelly Tabone & team using Smashbox Cosmetics. (See review).

Prices: Most separates and dresses retail for $400-$1200
