BRIGGS & RILEY 2010-2011 STYLISH TRAVEL GEAR

THAT MAKES THE LUGGAGE PART THE EASY PART

Outdoor Retailer, SLC

Words/Images Judith Ecochard

We barely had five minutes last winter’s show to stop by the Briggs & Riley booth. But when a gal pal, who heads up a major syndicated travel entity ---raved about the brand after attending an Editor’s Preview in NYC…

We booked time, this time.

Briggs & Riley has 18 years of experience and a lot of things going for it…

LIKE---

GET A GRIP:
Outsider® handle bars on the uprights…for more room inside a suitcase, flat packing-less wrinkled clothes.

A LIFETIME PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE (free of charge)

That’s amazing, given what airline baggage handlers, human or automated…are capable of doing to a bag.

And of course, innovative products for business, leisure, or action/adventure travelers---that are on trend in design.

We zeroed on the BRX line---for the adventuresome types. Coined the “Range Rover of luggage”---as in haulers for The Enlightened Traveler™---this ultra-lightweight (incredibly so, actually), high performance luggage is at once “ruggedly refined” and super functional.

Right off we noticed the large number of pockets---including an exterior laptop exterior pocket on the uprights.

Other details---grab handles, hide away ID tag, low profile wheels that can handle different terrains, the genius Outsider® Handle---

And materials including strategically placed 1000d nylon, 420d packcloth nylon and water-resistant tarpaulin and ripstop nylon---making this collection tough and practically weather proof---and our top pick for hardware---YKK® zippers and ergonomic zipper pulls. Having had a zipper bust apart on a pricey high-end European upright---we appreciate a brand that doesn’t skimp.

The frugal sort? No worries, because Briggs & Riley took a different approach from the usual zip-on a front back pack model, via a docking system consisting of “speed buckles”

Seriously, the huge Explore Upright - for example, snaps onto the Exchange Duffle …in seconds---so one pays for only one checked bag. Clever.

AVAILABLE COLORS: AMBER, OCEAN (blue) SLATE (light grey).

VALUE PRICED TOO: $120- $320
