MARA HOFFMAN FALL 2011

The Box, Lincoln Center

"FROM SACRED MOTHER TO WARRIOR"

Words/Presentation Images Judith Ecochard

NYC based Mara Hoffman has been looped into that boho-earthy category of designers...
The "Traveler" print in Zebra

And in the time we've been tracking this talented gal...her fabulous prints, flowing garments, and easy to handle even though PACKED presentations--(with live music)....

Are all standout/standard M. H. characteristics.

Inspiration for Fall 2011 is Hoffman's husband last artistic body of work: O Babalou=collages illustrating earth goddesses, priestesses, "where veil meets turban..."
Mystical and exotic

Hoffman herself is pregnant...and interestingly, we thought most of the loose silhouettes we saw...an earthy group of tunics, hooded dresses ("the juxtaposition of spiritual being and warrior")etc---often belted for shape but never restricting...

could all accomodate a woman's growing belly, if need be.

When we first walked in---we thought the initial looks---included a gathered long pleated black/grey dress...straight outta Morocco/Tunisia...

Wearable too---the chunky knit...and a thick wool coat---- were the standouts, IMHO.

The dark, smoky eyes, concealer muted lips,  and bronze skin tones-by Lottie for MakeUp Forever---and the Hair by Martin Christopher Harper for Cutler ---done up in thick chunky braids (via extensions sometimes) ...or encapsulated in turbans

----fitted the exotic Arabian vibe.
