With all the latest accolades going to young Asian and Asian-American designers, mostly men, we were more than thrilled to pay homage to a fashion icon who gives those very talented types, a high creative standard to aspire to.

Namely Vivienne Tam, a designer on our radar since we first bought an item with her label affixed on it (a scarf)---from the long demised Charivari. And Marc Jacobs worked there.

Backstage prior to the Fall 2011, the seasoned pro was all smiles-though truth be told, we were like "where are the clothes" worried---with the 3PM show only 80 minutes away.

Well that left a big empty space---but not where the hair/make-up was being conjured up---as packed as ever,

With a modern take on the ages old tradition of Chinese Opera, Leon Gorman for Cutler Salons and longtime partner Redken- designed his first Vivienne Tam coifs with the helmets worn by performers in mind.

Hair was blown straight , then a high pony tail.....bobby pinned into a top knot in a net---

---pinned with bobby pins

---then "ripped" (metaphor alert) hair pulled through and shaped into really cool silhouettes. Redken Hairsprays and moisturizing Cutler Shine Tatoo---kept the 'do-s in place and shiny.

The crowning glory was the black brocade pieces by Tam ---sewn into the back part of the hair.

And usually we ask how an everyday gal can re-create this hairstyle for herself. Given all the hands involved...we think why bother. Hire someone.

Andy Noh for Maybelline China also channeled the "modern cool" ...primarily with the focus on the eye. A thick line of the inky black gel liner was drawn from the center of the eye---winged out--- with an upturn flair at the end...with Lash Stiletto® Voluptuous® Mascara and then a few fake lashes at the corners, dramatically completing the cats eye shape.

Blush---with a rose hue was applied high and wraps around the eye socket, subtly highlighted with a shimmery beigy champagne powder. Flawless foundation --- from the new FIT ME by Mabelline paved the way----very clean!

For lips, a medium coral "Born With It' finished the look of "luminescent and beautiful."

AND---the nails a neat twist on a French manicure with glittery red tip appliques---by Incoco.

CODA: As we were walking out, the racks of Fall 2011 RTW clothes were rolling in....
