PIER 59, WEST SIDE HIGHWAY, NYC

The epitome of cool, Daryl Kerrigan has a twenty year career as a designer of women's separates for the hip.
Once again she staged a "comeback" RTW show for Fall 2011 that brought out a packed house of fans--- at a relatively late show.
Even Cathy Horne, the articulate NY Times fashion critic who came backstage, all smiles, prior for a quick hello...was part of the faithful.
A festive atmosphere---backstage at the spacious Pier 59 studios at Chelsea Piers, was underway ...with models from agencies Muse, Women and Supreme, mixed in with actresses , pals and even a sales rep from
Kerrigan's Bond Street store all ready, practically-by the time we got there. No drama here.
It was the latter typre---a super nice Laura Voyner who showed us the genius of the stretch leather combo leggings/pant with stitching at the knees that elevate them to everyday status ($895)--- fitting like a glove, and we think, flattering all ages of ladies.
Light enough for year round wear too, we thought--- except on really hot days. And for sale now in addition to pairs that we were told--- are creatively patched up--- that reminded us of the denim our older siblings wore in the 70's.
Kerrigan herself was rocking a pair of leggings---made in suede...
Warm belted trenches-a classic in Army green,
... others---belted in a woodsy leafy tree print...
And a fav of ours----a cozy camel cape/poncho with brown leather gauntlet gloves we woulda walked out with and worn everywhere...
Other winning looks---
...a breezy over sized utilitarian white button-down, belted with a ruffled velvet vest...the shirt, an item with unlimited wearable prospects....
Tunics and feminine blazers over low slung trousers or black leather leggings---easy to wear, too.
Kerrigan just gets it (meaning what city women and country gals would wear, always).
We didn't have to decode anything.
FYI:
The run of show stated:
"There is nowhere I feel more at peace than by the big wide river surrounded by woods at my house - sometimes calm and nurturing, sometimes raging, brown and thieving: either works..."
We love this, un-fussy utilitarian modern style, ensembles even we could pull together in three minutes...that gals will go back to no matter how much stuff she has stuffed into that wardrobe closet.
Much like those 90's Daryl K trousers that made this designer's output a keeper to begin with.
ALSO: Footwear, cowboy pointy toe mules and boots.
