"STRETCH AND FOLD"

The VPL runway shows are one of our favorites...the backstage is always buzzing on a Sunday morning...at the spacious Pier 59 Studios...with everyone catching up and...with every sec being photographed....
...where models have room to hang out, get something to eat ---including healthy options and alcohol-free.
There is an obvious effort/philosophy going on here---an extension of designer Victoria Bartlett's lifestyle we presume---with The Humane Society "No Fur" buttons in every goody bag, to sponsors with a natural bent---
---In the true sense of the word---like the natural based, high performance, luxury NUDE skincare line, recently bought by LVMH...founded by Bono's wife Ali Newsom and Bryan Meehan,
Skin Treatments backstage by Intraceuticals and Clairisonic
the plant based Phyto products---
...used by hair team- Recine for Rodin by Recine Luxe Hair Oil...(essential oils that smell amazing BTW)
Bare Essentials bareMinerals® Make-up...and backstage favorites of the homeopathic bent---staples we see at practically every show...
Nails by Kim D'amato for Priti Organic Spa using polish and products free of damaging chemicals like toulene....
As calm as any person could be---prior to a huge catwalk production---
---- we had a few minutes to chat with Bartlett...
Quipping that she must have been Japanese in her "real life"---the designer always "starts with the last look" of the RTW show to serve as the starting point for each collection...
"With lingerie and streetwear to fill in the gap." (Or we note, lingerie inspired streetwear-a sophisticated body-conscious take on urban sportswear)
She added...
"...the Japanese always do that, there's probably a psychological explanation of it...you know how artists look at paintings upside down..."
"...going backwards...going forwards...MY FINALE IS MY TRUE PASSION OF THE SHOW."
This year's Fall/Winter 2011 has warm and cool colors that work on all skin tones.
With fabrics that stretch...including paneled hoisery....
And some textiles that are "armor"---shiny, translucent metallics,
AND flat out sensuous---latex rubber...
With separates draped and/or bandaged, fitted for that modern, confident women.
The knack of Barltlett to stylishly conjure ensembles---with strong architectural lines---the perfect interplay of two or three elements.
Sculptural and slim fitted knit silhouettes are inventively accessorized with custom jewelry by Brian Crumley and Orly Genger by Jaclyn Mayer.
PLUS: Terrific boots: LD Tuttle for VPL (three season collaboration)
We noted in the "Thank-You" section of the run-of -show...a shout out to a fashion icon, IMHO---and superb actress, Tilda Swinton. We can see why...as we feel VPL 's separates would appeal to a women's individual sense of style---
Magically.
SPECIAL NOTE:
The make-up rocked the orange eye we saw last spring at certain shows---including Derek Lam's. The "it" color for nails lately---in various hues of coral...
...we think a certain girl "can rock" the bold slash of ORANGE color...here framed with bareMineral's Flawless Definition Mascara in black, a solid, natural brow tamed with Brow Finishing Gel...a shimmery touch with Prime Time Brightening Pearl Eyelid Primer....
....and BrowBare Minerals SPF 20 Concealer for a neutral pallette.
Cheeks were then slightly flushed with bareMinerals Blush in Vintage Peach---that softly offsets the eyelids....
bareMinerals Illuminating Mineral Veil high on the brow and cheek bones---giving the models a nice glow when the lights hit.
On the lips---Pretty Amazing Lipcolor-Strength, Buxom Lip Polish in Destiny---balance out the strong eye.
