Mission EG5: Shaped: Mobility: Engineered: Functionality:Versatility
When we got the invite to the launch of the new
Tumi Outerwear F/W 2014 collection for men and women, we figured it would be…
maybe…somewhat similar to the Tech by Tumi items-that---and much like its "World Class - Well Travelled" carry-alls= are stylish and sporty, and made from durably performing materials.
|
warmth without the bulk-very urban friendly |
With a bit of research, we found that this debut of sorts
just got its deployment papers back in October 2013-with
David Peyser Sportswear on board as licensee. So having seen another terrific collection from this Big Apple based entity at the last winter Outdoor Retailer tradeshow (
32º Weatherproof), we expected some serious high-end handsomeness along with the athletic aspects of the offerings.
And then when we got there…and started reading the handouts, detailing each jacket/coat-before even see in any of the spot-lit art exhibit like presentation-we immediately thought of our fav labels like Nau and
Canada Goose.
|
Westwood -mixed materials-all warm w/removable hood |
PLUS athletic brands we review-like
Salomon and
Burton.
|
love-Abbey stretch mélange cire-down puffer w/ asymmetrical zip, feminine curves-well placed zipped outer pockets |
|
Greene-double breasted trench w/ stand-up collar to ward off the cold. Nice rather trim details... |
PLUS theft-prevention hauler driven
PacSafe…because obviously the performance features-meaningfully factored into choosing the techy fabrics used-(i.e.moisture wicking/breathable/anti-microbial Bionic Stretch
37.5™ (the
'old' Cocona and
SymaTex®)…while including details like RFID blocking pockets (that's theft id protection, fyi…)
Which might not matter to the strictly
how does it look customer.
What will:
The dramatically attired mannequins,…conjured up the clean structured lines of a military uniform -fused with the fashion sensibilities of the beloved Helmet Lang circa 90's…and the exact tailoring of Hugo Boss. No doubt-turning out such a collection -so quickly (from cradle to adulthood, so-to-speak)-required a bit of military-like deployment skills…too.

Scott Branscum, President Tumi Outerwear |
|
Agent-clean crisp pea coat water resistant, Bionic Stretch Wool w/ perforated anti-bacterial lining, breathable/moisture wicking air mesh trim body+lining |
The Tumi Outerwear collection is led by Scott Branscum- a seasoned creative/retail veteran who has toiled for entities from fashion company
Perry Ellis , outdoor/casual lifestyle brand
Eddie Bauer, to making life-saving uniforms -for the the military/tactical label
Massif ---
|
Bomber style-Armory-Stretch twill, multifunctional flap pockets, water resistant , knit trim, anti-bacterial lining with breathable panels under arm |
...which thoroughly explains the skills sets required to design and produce a fused comfort/performance, and fashionable apparel.
|
like this length- |
Expect:
This launch was so well attended by top retailers---and really, what's not to like-we expect Tumi Outerwear (priced from mid $300s-just under $1000) to be widely available at top shops-online and in stores. A smart interpretation for an enduring brand a Harvard Business School grad/pal clued us in on wayyyy back when.
|
Flight-modern military anorak w/ multi-functional pockets, water resistant stretch oxford, button front plackets, luxe comfy knit collar w/ tab collar ward off the cold, signature quilt lining w/ 3 Dimensional and RFID pocketing |
ADDED PLUS: Several athletic/fashion labels we review- from Merrell to
Levi's- have travel friendly jackets that stuff away into pockets or into travel pillows…but these are as handsome as one can get= Tumi Outerwear PAX collection ($198-$270)…polished enough to wear to a business meeting….straight off the plane.
|
There's a female equivalent to these four pieces…made with stretch, and highly weather tough |
|
40g -60g insulation for vest+jacket-stuffs into a handy travel pillow |
