Chelsea Art District, NYC

It was a given that the models would look amazing…

New for us, was this high end, under our radar cosmetic brand-HOURGLASS COSMETICS that adorned the faces of the mannequins…and glammed up the LA PERLA presentation of luxe lingerie.

BACKGROUND:

Founded by serial entrepreneur Carisa Janes, an original member of Urban Decay’s creative team, developer of vintage –inspired Body & Soul Cosmetics, and consultant par excellence…

Hourglass Cosmetics is the beauty biz/ whiz’s latest venture.

What got to us right away was the incredible streamline packaging of the hydrating lip gloss called PRODIGY…that can slip right into one’s pocket. ($26). We tried some on bare lips in a metallic bronzy HYPNOTIC---  and loved the moisturizing feel (with Vitamin E to protect/hydrate), and high shine without the tacky stickiness of other glosses,

This modern luxurious cosmetics line also boasts “complexion perfectingVeil Fluid Makeup (foundation with Vitamin A and E,  anti-aging Metrixl® that helps natural cellular production, for damage control and Skin Tightener ST™ a natural plant and marine goodie to tighten and smooth $60), Veil Mineral Primer (SPF 15+ with earth derived Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide for broad spectrum protectin and a flawless oil free finish), and Illusion Tinted Moisterizer (SPF 15+ with plumper Hyaluronic Acid and Instalift® a plant derived glycopeptide which visibly tightens skin-$55)  …  available in beauty emporiums like Sephora and Barneys NY because of the quality of the ingredients ---

AND without the controversial stuff like parabens, sulfate, phthalate…and artificial fragrance.

PLUS: The actual percentage of active ingredients listed---make this brand a standout.

THE LA PERLA LOOKS:

Michael Pierce, the Creative Director/Lead Makeup Artist of Hourglass Cosmetics, created three distinct looks to go with the three La Perla collections that were presented.

For the La Perla, Film Noir inspired group, sultry Hollywood like this Veronica Lake lookalike…got the sexy pout with the Trace Lip Liner in Message ($28) and the Fall 2010 Raven shade Adorn Hydrating Lipstick ($24) ---topped off with the Hypnotic Prodigy Lip Gloss we had tried.

The Studio grouping for the modern urban gals… had models with sculpted cheeks that they were probably gifted with…but aided by strategic application of the Hidden Corrective Concealer ($32).

The seductive eyes got that way by lining the inner eye with the charcoal black shade that’s part of the Prism Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo ($38)---applied with a wet brush, adding shine (Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss $28) to the lids that were smudged with a combo of Prism…and topping off eyelashes with Fall 2010’s Film Noir Superficial Lash Mascara ($26).

Lastly, the softer looks of the Villa Toscana collection had the model’s flawless skin radiating a slight shimmer with the Illusion Tinted Moisturizer and the Illume Crème to Powder Bronzer Duo ($40)…a bronzer and highlighter that we were told…would actually last all day.

ADDED PLUS: The signature 360 degree Swivel Compacts with a mirror that houses the bronzer. LOVE!!!!
