Transparency and a traceable supply chain are big real deals-and in some cases, the law- for buyers (and purveyors)...in all industries...from baby strollers to wearables, apparel, and especially in the food/drink/pharma businesses-judging by all the FDA recalls we get emailed everyday. (YIKES).
Notably-we have seen an uptick in small business- owner-grower images-and their backstory-right on their goods' packaging (not just Q codes-or on social media)-at the recent Fancy Food Show in NYC...
Which makes sense-as a terrific way to stand out on shelves from big consumer packaged food companies. No wonder...the later often now are struggling for Gen Z-Gen X dollars-who are the largest eaters of specialty (really mainstream now) offerings.
On The Farm:
Betting vegetarians-who vow never to eat anything that has a mother-would be horrified to learn that in this country (at least)...most milked animals have an expiration date on their milking days-and get slaughtered at the end of it (for their meat). And that includes hog-tied and tossed in the back of a pick-up...as well as larger containers.
No wonder the mostly 'retired' goats in Manhattan's Riverside Park-are so missed after their three weeks of eating away at the underbrush. Humans and their leashed dogs both were drawn to this special urban phenomena.
At the Fancy Foods 2019 show-Vermont based BIG PICTURE FARM really stood out-with irresistible goat milk creamy caramels in wonderfully packaged giftable (also self gifts)...wooden boxes, satchels, as well as grab and go sized bags.
These are truly melt-in your-mouth delicious (made with fresh creamy milk from the hairy residents)-and perfectly (not cloyingly) sweet -with a more buttery-like texture + finish than the cheaper mass produced candies. DIVINE
WORTHY: these caramels have won so many Best Confection awards at past Fancy Food shows.
BONUS-all of Big Picture Farm goats are named just like family pets... and are living out their old age on the premises-we actually asked. Big Picture Farm-is Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World.YAY!
WHAT ELSE:
Seen at many international cheese distributors/exhibitors booths-pictures of the farmers who actually own the animals-and/or make the cheeses.
