Athletic shoes seem to be having quite the fashion moment these days…with primo priced designer labels offering up fancy bedazzled athletic sandals and lifestyle sneakers/high-tops---
Back during a 1980's transit strike in NYC-the whole wearing running shoes to work- by women in tailored skirt-suits ---who had to walk longer lengths than usual---was a phenomenon that kind of launched the whole thing.
A few decades later…that trend is back---and imo, forever. And no doubt-high heeled fashionistas/print editors, and shoe designers are arching their judgmental eyebrows in horror BUT like leggings and denim, once you wear that kind of comfort-it is sells and is worn.
Which should help the two brands Chaco and Teva-both heritage performance footwear labels who started from a technical needs MO---and evolved into offering several sporty- lifestyle selections…not the other way around.
The benefit of this trajectory is that the shoe construction details are the cake-the decorative touches…the icing-with all backed by gurantees-durably made and given the $s charged for designer shoes, a bargain. Big time.
