Vivienne Tam’s collection is always a show we look forward too…

This time out, the experienced designer filled the large tent set-up with all of her fans from far and wide. We know that cause we sat next to two gals from San Diego who were guests of Maybelline China---on one side…and two Hong Kong based biz ladies. Dressed impeccably, of course…in Vivienne Tam.

This runway show was dedicated to the people who live on the Great Silk Road…a legendary route that used to transport all those luxe materials across Central and East Asia…and currently suffering the after effects of massive summer floods. (www.give2asia.org/chinaflood)

The RTW show had a huge screen with live images of the models strutting the catwalk for a close-up view even the last row could appreciate.

The first looks did not remind us of a Vivienne Tam collection---

--they were girly crotchet or hand worked pieces---lots of cotton lace or macramé---very intricate of course, the craftsmanship was intricate---mini dresses, tops, …even the macramé sandals.

So we guessed aha---the beginning (or end) of the Silk Road---Western Europe.

Later looks referenced Central Asian heritages with the most amazing ethnic prints---
( Nomad Striped jacket…with flowing pants)…
sleeveless dresses, lots of racerback necklines--- that were really beautiful---well made--- we guessed--- and the colors looked like earthy vegetal dyes---rich, warm tones.

Sarong skirts, exquisite jackets…with racer bank tanks…really well done.

And were more familiar silhouettes ---

Our favorite attire---the flowing sheer dresses and tops…made of silk chiffon…in intricate lush prints…

The last few looks---were all winners---the last garment---a Quartz Pink Net Lace long Shift---romantic and adventuress---though we would wear to our neighbor’s kid decidedly less exotic Bar Mitzvah---if we could…and just imagine where could be.

It all added up to a free spirited collection.Very gamine crossed with high-end hippy c
