“DANCING the HEMPEN JIG”
April 3rd, 2009
STARWORKS NY Showroom
Soho, MANHATTAN
We ‘fess up. When we used to hear about a celeb backed/designed clothing line, our eyeballs would roll back and forth visiting the various regions of our skulls.
That all changed with the cool opus- Harajuku Lovers a garb line by the fierce Gwen Stefani. Naturally, she has HELP---but we can see that her signature flourishes/personal touches- are all over the pieces.
Which brings us to…
our chance to review the Fall 2009 Collection by actress Siena Miller and her sister Savannah, Twnety8Twelve –at the NYC showroom that reps the line.
And we really think there is a distinct fashion editorial mantra that they got going on…though the old pirate term, "Dancing The Hempen Jig"---the dance of death at the end of a hangman's rope...is not exactly the visual we are channeling.
THE COLLECTION:
A vintage/boho vibe lineup of separates include biker-ish leather jackets, cropped military style blazers, modernized 70’s menswear style trousers with matching jackets (so practical),
innovative Grecian worthy twisted/draped cotton jersey feel tops and mini dresses, a romantic knee length velvet frock coat (love), and long floral dresses.
Sienna Miller, much like the other English Fashionista Style Goddess we admire- Kate Moss-seems amazingly capable of pulling together her own looks---without much effort but always looking terrif.
We think this savvy panache is in this collection---that is inspired by “Charlie Chaplin and his famous character ‘The Tramp’, full of romantic contradictions,” the sharp angularity/androgyny of Grace Jones (who ROCKED the runway New York Fashion Week for designer Xuly Bet) and the ‘New Wave’ film movement…of revolutionary filmmaker Jean Luc Goddard.”
EDITORIAL FAV:
The cozy thick knit long cardigan/dress.
COLORS: Titian (Blue), Charcoal Marl (Dark Grey), Ebonised (Black), Lead (Grey), Newton (Peacock Blue), Scroll (Creamy Beige)
Well done.
