ALLEGRI Fall 2012-Outerwear/Knits

Allegri knits and accessories

High School of Fashion Industries/NYC

words/images Judith Ecochard

Three years and counting, outerwear specialists, the Italian Allegri...sponsored a contest for those immensely talented seniors at NYC' HS of Fashion Industries...with the ultimate prize of glory, bragging rights---and a limited edition collection of those winning designs.

AND---in a imaginative presentation, invited media got to preview the winning Allegri collection for Fall 2012 too.

PLUS we were reminded once again....why this company has the tagline "...the architects of fabrics..."---with a library, in a manner of speaking----of over two thousand invented by them- fabrics---including the buzzed about waterproof cashmere.

(FYI: treatment at the thread level-NOT a coated laminate-that is how the luxe wool retains its legendary softness).

these lightweight down vests are terrific on their own-or to layer

the color---is from the dyed down feathers underneath-coming through translucent like nylon fabric

These pieces are from the Allegri-Tech collection-sporty separates...a modern riff on old school track jackets. Wear off the track with denim jeans.

Men's looks...

toggle closures---

smart performance features-like inner storm flaps that zip up separately

a classic sturdy wool coat in a deep burnt orange tone reminded us of a melton wool coat we inherited designed by iconic American designer, Bonnie Cashin

zip hood detail-undo for a draped collar

love this classroom setting for the presentation

winning designs

BE impressed-these students, tasked with conjuring up men's and women's styles--- know how to construct garments from 'a (research) to z (finished garment)'---which is more than many successful fashion designers can manage...
draping-practice before the real deal

Students-with their respective designs---wearable/stylish garments par excellence-were judged by Eric Jennings (Saks Fith Avenue), model Michelle Alves and Allegri CEO Gian Maria Argenti.

The featherweight down jackets and vests are very popular-for both urban types and mountain bound athletes.

LUXURY is often the "simplest" designs-well made, tailored---

we want-this color block op art pattern wool coat-lovely, belted

vertical quilting pattern is flattering

Handsome blazers-that are impervious to wind and water resistant---terrific option-to wear with a wool vest/sweater underneath-still be protected enough...crisp, handsome, tailored---versatile.
