Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: New York

We have been following New York based fashion designer Thuy Diep for two years now…since we first saw her work in showrooms and on the catwalk.
Now a packed show at the Tents gave the rest of the planet a chance to appreciate the sophisticated workmanship, and edgy tailored and modern classics of this well educate designer.
Having a overlapping schedule prevented us from taking in the RTW show itself…but we did get a few minutes backstage.
Urbane separates from this Parson's School alum--- are made from luxurious fabrics. The cyrstal laden silk coat = a work of wearable art..
Intricate details and embellishments had the backstage sewers and steamers, including Diep's parents--- were working the garments till the end…
Quoted in WWD as saying her collection is “a tongue-in-cheek take on the sultry chic of a Thirties movie goddess with a bit of S&M spin…”
Certainly we saw THAT---with zippers as embellishments…and the shiny, lacquered hair (Sebastian products Mousse Forte and Gel Forte---created by Vidal Sassoon’s Elaine Mitchell).
Luc Bouchard for MAC had the gals looking positively pink with a glossy neutral lips…a look left to the young fresh dewy skin types.
