Nary Manivong was in a celebratory mood at his RTW showing -held at the beginning of NY’s Fashion Week. We not only felt his on target 14 looks were—well- on target…but that his likeable personality makes him a natural for the camera as well as a pleasure to be around. (See the doc “Dressed”).

In his late 20’s and originally from Laos and very humble beginnings, Manivong is a self-taught designer who grew up in OHIO!!!! “Yeah the Buckeyes,” he smiled when queried on his loyalties.

With styling straight out of the Robert Palmer “Addicted To Love” school book (pulled back, slick hair in ponytails, strong dark eyes, poppin’ lips), Manivong clued us in on his tableau vivant…
“…it’s all about the 80’s,”

Working with silk and rich wool velvets, and a nifty elastic stretch silk (we think we heard that right…the music was loud) in bold solid colors, Manivong channels a “wearable, feminine attitude…to wear to the office and wear out.”

One of our favorite looks was a side tied, softly clingin’ blue silk dress with intricate key hole cutouts leading up to a high neck collar.

Eminently wearable IMHO are the pocketed black silk slim fitted pants, cut just so at the petal shaped hems as to accentuate leg lengths and fall perfectly/delicately just at the top of the strappy high heel sandals…a detail designers often forget.
