'The WAXMAN' 18th Annual Dinner+Auction: John Varvatos +John Fogerty

55 Wall Street - Cipriani

COLLABORATING FOR A CURE

Fondly known as "The Waxman" and one of NYC's top fundraising nights...the annual dinner and live/silent/and ongoing auctions drew a full house to downtown's Cipriani...with proceeds benefiting the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation.

This year's event-honored special guest icon fashion-lifestyle designer/record label producer John Varvatos and had bring the house down musical entertainment by rock legend John Fogerty.
Elin and Michael Nierenberg -Hosts extraordinaire once again worked their magic for a terrific evening

Lined up and ready to coat check-Cipriani Wall Street has a system= flawless execution of services-no wonder this event space is always booked. The jaw dropping former bank-has an awe inducing setting that reminded us of how financial institutions were once installed in marble palaces- magnificent cathedral-like architecture. Now of course, Americans bank ALOT online, or via ATMs...or drive throughs...faster but not as celestial an experience.

now live on Charity Buzz...great travel, art and whoa---a suite for up to 24 people at the Jets vs Patriots game, including parking. NICE
rock related art...unique one of a kind items... luxury travel jaunts like Heli-Skiing...plus-meet and greets including a fav Bravo TV's- Andy Cohen-helmed taping (and cocktails) of Watch What Happen's Live=LOVE
view of the 'house' during the live auction-skillfully mastered by Sotheby's Hugh Hildesley-with a mixture of humor, persuasive cajoling and a retro-comment that took us back to our commodity trading floor days...during the lively bidding for a Labradoodle dog that went for $16,000!!!!
Silent Auction-included choice dining options and luxury items. Kudos to the auction committee!
Detroit native-menswear designer John Varvatos had interviewers lined up ready to chat- before the dinner...his Bowery boutique is located in the former night club music dive- CBGBs where we spent a few memorable nights - growing up in the days before parents had cellphones. As did he (we asked!). Here's hoping he kept the graffiti laden tiles from the bathrooms...On more serious note-the designer's recounting of his family battles with cancer during the dinner ceremony -gave a personal sad touch and a stark reminder of why we were all at this evening's event.
Joyce Varvatos prob. not wearing her husband's design as he does not craft womenswear :-(

MC-Co-Anchor CBS News This Morning Chris Wragge -lively animated delivery set the tone...impressive-as this guy wakes up at 2AM to start his work day...figuring he'll get by on 5 hours a sleep, given the time.

Dessert capped off a great meal of delish food...and free flowing liquids !

WOW-rock legend John Fogerty (1969) and his present day band....tight rocking' sound...plus fab antidotes about coming onstage as part of Creedence Clearwater Revival- at the Woodstock Music Festival -in 1969-after the Grateful Dead---amazing. FYI "Who'll Stop The Rain" was written afterwards...a song that 40+ years later-still relevant with that folk-rock instrumentation + soul-searching lyrics.
John Fogerty travels with 24 guitars-his guitar tech must be very skillful.
