Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Lincoln Center

Words/Images Judith Ecochard

No surprises here---a packed presentation full of well made, separates--- with all-American polish ...

---on clean cut guys with the confident ease being the coolest dudes in the room.

The assorted models, posed on docks---were clearly the best dressed...

The Run-Of-Show stated the inspiration:

"...the Maritime Heritage of the Sleeping Bear Dunes region of Lake Michigan, part of America's Great Lakes region. From the deep blue waters that wash up against high, neutral sand dunes, to the pops of safety orange that honor our Coast Guard."

Staged in color groups we began at the back....the navy/black/charcoal section.

On right-Grey Wool Tweed Coat/Safety Orange Canvas Button Up Jacket/Grey Wool Dress Pant -Layered looks with some bright colors for pulled together ensemble

Black Waxed Cotton Utility Jacket/over Charcoal Wool Two Button Suit, Black Performance Tee---our top pick

Really, what's not to like...functional fashion at a slim youthful version of what we call an American cut---
Camel Wool Toggle Coat/Grey Wool Dress Pant

Light Brown Corduroy Sportcoat/Navy Denim Pant

---not the skinny hipster Euro profile that dominate some men's collections but fit no one well over a certain age ---thirty or so.

Wearable blazers, wool suits, puffers in that bright "Safety Orange" and Navy, cotton turtlenecks, wool dress pants...

Sail White/Navy Cotton Striped Turtleneck with Snap Closures, Grey Cotton Cargo Pant

...casual parkas, wool peacoats and hooded toggle coats, thick cotton sweaters...any and all classically inspired pieces--- welcome easy additions to any wardrobe.

Grey/White Cotton Rugby

Probably why Nautica is really sold all over the world. It fits in everywhere,

The first grouping---in refreshing "Sail White"---in handsome combos of nautical stripes on crew necks, ...and in cotton cargo pants, corduroy pants ...

Up close the details---pockets, triple stitched seams, solid zip hardwares...elevate the brand above the usual mass market assortments.
Sail White Cotton Jacket with Signal Flag Jacket/Sail White Cotton Cargo Pant

Nautica accessories too---beanies, hats, shoes...

A "hot night" or "the morning after" hair...think bouncy, loose beautiful curls for long or short tresses...fluffy with lots of texture---or "urban gypsy."

...were just some of the tossed out words from the original Queen of Curls---Ouidad.

A season-less look, begins with dry hair was sprayed (foamed) using PlayCurl Volumizing Foam --- and then soothed/smoothed with Climate Control

Fingers running through hair to lightly loosen the barrel iron curled hair...into siren worthy sophisticated waves---an easy four step process.

A look we were told would take maybe five to fifteen minutes "TOPS.".

Sarah Lucero the Stila Pro Artist for had the gals looking fresh and 60's sexy with strong dark eyes (Chinois, Espresso), with Stingray smudged stick eye liner....and Kajal eye liner in Topaz for pop---topped with Glamoureye mascara.

A whole lotta products

A very pinkish Apricot Lip glaze and a slightly flushed cheek completed the look. NICE.

Enough bags and shoes to set most aswoon-y. How to choose?

ADDED PLUS: Cool pals like Sean Lennon in attendance.

Trend-on Separates

Outdoor Retailer, SLC

Totes, organizers, satchels--- all needed  as every gal has stuff to haul around.

We noticed a cross-over trend for a few years now---from traditional outdoor labels  aspiring to attract the urban markets---that only makes sense. Quality is quality.

Ellington, a haul it all collection from Oregon that we have reviewed Outdoor Retailer. But is also a collection that shows at more fashion-y accessories trade shows here in the Big Apple too.

As its affordable and stylish bags easily fit many lifestyles.

New for Fall 2011 is the versatile, durable nylon cross-body Weekender belonging to the lightweight Ameilia new colors like eggplant, navy blue and olive.

We like the functional slot to attach to  luggage upright

The Annie Convertible backpack/tote ($54) is a quilted sporty/ grown-up take on a choice design with a handy organizer panel beneath the front flap.

Hobos are classics at this point---

Sadie Hobo-Suede $199

Great lining, inner pockets...key clip

...and the Sadie has just the right amount of slouchy softness in rich glazed Italian leather---including limited edition bronze metallic and Black Floral Emboss (for Holidays-October delivery $229)...

... or soft suede ...with subtle hardware decorative details.

The Nicole hobo with subtle pleating----has an eye catching diagonal zipper opening...

Nicole Hobo $189

Ellington's new accessories collection from the Bella group---is made from a unique glossy Italian leather-----that makes a modern statement without dating itself...

Bella Tote $209

Bella Wallry $69

Wallets, hobos, totes and cross-body purses with polished nickel tone hardware and smooth leather trims and straps---come in the basic color waves---Graphite (black trim), Midnight Blue (brown trim)---and the carry-over Tan (brown trim).

PLUS: A new collection---the Simone (Simone Tote pictured above $229)...has clean lines in a soft leather ---with a bit of structure than a slouchy bag

----It's a nice in between a tailored purse----mashed-up with the ease of a roomy oversized tote. We like how it's a bit more polished than our usual tote---as the Simone version fits the Yiddish word schlepper with an elegant chicness worthy of more expensive brands.
