One of the courtyards, wrestled from the cigarette smokers---was magically transformed by the high-end Italian rainwear/sportswear company ALLEGRI---for its retrospective and catwalk presentation of Fall 2011 outerwear pieces
The glamorous setting, shielded under banks of umbrellas-that turned out to be pretty decorations as opposed to being necessary (the weather was sunny and in the 40's)---included mannequins wearing items from the Allegri archives---designed by such fashion luminaries as Giorgio Armani, Martin Margiela, and Romeo Gigli.
CEO Gian Maria Argenti---and his staff---
...offered a feast for the stomach as well as the eyes----as attendees were treated to delish tidbits of Italian food and drinks...a warm, hospitable way to host the media---that is typical in Europe but rarely done in NYC where it is usually all business!!!
"The challenge is to bring our own style to performance wear with unique fabrics that are cutting edge," Argenti told us.
As he pointed to the 40th Anniversary limited edition black double silk, water repellant jacket on a passing model...Argenti added:
"We wanted to show everyone the models with the new collection----that's in different volumes and fabrics. The tailoring too is wonderful."
We agree and were glad we had a chance to build on a Saks Fifth Avenue review we saw a few months back...and learned also---that among the over 2000(!!!) fabrics that Allegri sources, including proprietary textiles...
Allegri epitomizes what technical expertise with design can accomplish---affordable, useful luxury---like some of the Outdoor Retailer previewed performance brands.
Like the water repellant cozy Rain Cashmere fabric...
Also getting the nod from us--- the jackets with what we assume a detachable liners of lofty, compressible goose down for additional warmth...in slim profiles that are urban stylish as well.
