Text, Vivian G. Kelly Images of Neiman's Preview, Richard Spiegel Poster Image from www.allposters.com Time : 1:00PM, Wednesday, December 3, 2008 Place: The Chambers Hotel – W 56th St. the penthouse, NYC THE WHO: Accessories Fashion Director, Neiman Marcus, Sandra Wilson. THE WHAT/THE THEMES: • “Funny Face” • Pink and nude • A Heavy YSL Influence IS “think pink” the antidote to the recession? Back in the fifties, Kay Graham, whose character is said to have been based on both Vogue editor Diana Vreeland and Harper's Bazaar editor Carmel Snow, urged her fashion editors to “think pink” as an antidote to a lack of inspiration. Neiman’s message for the spring 2009 was “think pink”. As if the big pink display on the suite’s first floor wasn’t enough, they had the film “Funny Face” running on mute upstairs. Pink is a good idea in a time where most people are thinking gray, as we witnessed on the fall 2008 runways – and that was before the recession went full throttle ahead. WHAT’S NEW...

The SAKS Fifth Avenue/ESCADA Celebration benefiting FREE ARTS INC

Text, Vivian G. Kelly Images, Richard Spiegel WHEN: Thursday night, October 30th WHERE: Saks Fifth Avenue, the 2nd floor WHY: To show off the spring 2009 Escada collection and to benefit Free Arts NYC, and a chance to hear DUFFY sing live. WHAT: Ron Frasch, Saks’ President and CMO & AMY SACCO collaborated to host a celebration to honor Escada’s Creative Director, DAMIANO BIELLA and to benefit Free Arts NYC. This was an event that reminded us of pre-recession days, starting with a phalanx of photographers at the ready when we entered on the 50th Street entrance at 8PM. Saks’ staff transformed the selling floor into a cool lounge spot - a little 101 Arabian Nights with the billowy white curtains separating the various areas. THE ESCADA COLLECTION Once inside the main bar area, the champagne flowed freely and the crowd admired DAMIANO BIELLA’s latest for Escada. The Collection had something for women in just about every part of the country – smart thinking on Mr. Biella’s part. Ther...

Text, Vivian G. Kelly Images, courtesy of BPCM [bismarck phillips communications & media] Ever since designer Isabel Toledo parted ways with Anne Klein, we wondered what the company would do next. While Ms. Toledo is unquestionably a talented designer, her designers were just too couture for the more mainstream Anne Klein customer. When we saw the images [shown here] designed by Ted Kim, we breathed a sigh of relief. Designer Ted Kim’s new collection has that modern clean lined all-American sensibility that speaks of his background at Michael Kors. Says Mr. Kim to WWD about his first collection for Anne Klein, “It’s Anne Klein with a facelift and a tummy tuck.” Mr. Kim has had stints working on the Donna Karan signature collection as well as Max Mara’s Sportmax collection. The new spring 2009 collection will be his first collection for Anne Klein. If you’re in Dallas on Saturday, September 13, change your plans and head over to Neiman Marcus North Park for what we think will be a v...
