 Chelsea Piers Studio, NYC The setting- a stark white space-is like an art gallery---and Lindsay Degen's F/W 2015 collection kinda felt like  performance piece at times…vs fashion presentation. real life casting-clothes are for the most part- gender-neutral... Inspired by artist Claes Oldenburg…a LES artist…and of course-an iconoclast….Degen's inspiration was also part of her mission- a colorful statement-itself--- From the run of show … In 1961, artist Claes Oldenburg made one-of-a-kind, larger than life sized everyday objects and displayed them in his storefront studio in New York City’s Lower East Side. These works were born out of wanting to bridge the gap between fine art commerce and the low prices of everyday objects. Art collectors and curators were quick to purchase all of the items from Oldenburg’s “store”, seeing their beauty as art objects and aesthetic worth.  Chelsea Studios/NYC Lindsay DEGEN showed her "Acid" colorful clothing-meant for  millennials and under…in a presentation format-that fit the playful nature of the clothes.  Teva sandals and crew socks anchored Burning Man worthy casual tops/tanks, swimsuits, leggings, shorts-and a "PAOM Floating Hotdog Dress"... Katelynn Condiment Tank top, California Sunshine Legging Print designs by Gretta Johnson-Printed Garments by Print All Over Me-were splashy fun. No idea what the separates cost---but kudos for injecting color into wardrobes-especially since 98% of the hipsters at this presentation wore black, white, grey…the usual. Lindsay Degen words/images Judith Ecochard Tongue-in-cheek-or showing snippets of- through quirky cut-outs, the repeal of the USA military policy "don't ask, don't tell" inspired a RTW collection of largely knits-crafted by "a small army of creative people,"commanded by Lindsay Degen.   The modus operand here-was the mimicking of patterns on  French WWI war ships-by modernist sculptors, painters and set designers no less... It reminded us a but of VPL's knits---fun, inventive---with some pieces we thought-retail worthy---- The interplay of patterns and colors was very cute...and the hair and make-up (Lulu Locks and Jessica Berndt for Lime Crime)...worked well with the whole edgy vibe.
