MONTALCINO---Wines Part 2

MORE Highlights...Brunello di Montalcino -New Releases

MUSICO poured a suite of vintages of its Brunelle Di Montalcino DOCG (2013, 2014, 2015-producing about 5000 bottles per year on 25 year old vines) and Rosso di Montalcion DOC (2017, 2018 producing about 3000 bottles per year). The highlight-2015 -with red fruit, leathery- dry tannins well balanced...
MastroJanni -owned by Gruppo Illy-is imported by Selected Estates of Europe LTD,  is popular, with  well distributed wines here....plus it's winery terra firma is a destination- for tourists visiting Tuscany. The ruby tone fragrant Rosso di Montalcino 2017 which is a great pick for parties- has a bold structure, distinct tannins and fruity taste-AND is friendly-priced around  $26-$30 online-and ready drink now. IMO-...works with a range of food including spiced up Asian and Super Bowl party fare-not just typical Italian fare or meats -the usual suggestions.
Family owned Plan delle Querci Bruno di Montalcino Riserva 2013  aged in Slovenian oak has an elegance to it via big pow taste. Lovely...and worth seeking out.
The ORGANIC single vineyard Col D'Orcia  Poggio AL Vento  2013 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva -on the left of the trio pictured above=  delicious. Dry fruits, cinnamon-y, firm tannins-and a beautiful ruby red color, truly elegant, earthy...a sought out wine-even at this stellar wine tasting. Good luck finding it-we predict it's going to sell fast. SURPRISE-we loved the cabernets -blend NEARCO Sant' Antimo 2016 + in particular-the smooth well balanced -wood oak, black fruity single vineyard OLMAIA Sant'Antimo 2015 -too. Imported by Taub Family Selections
Verbena Brunello di Montalcino 2015 and single vineyard 2015 Riserva are both on the dry-tannic side, imported by Regal Wine Imports. Retail prices will land these in the good value category of the legendary 2015 vintage.

We really enjoyed the two Villa Poggio Salvi Brunello Di Montalcino 2015 (and  the special "Pomona") we tried...both has deep berries, medium-full body firm tannins, with an appealing mouthful of textured chewiness. The former-pricing in the mid $30s-has an earthy licorice-chalkiness taste-the later had a bigger complexity. Both are age worthy up to 2025 (imo). Imported by FX Magner Selections

love the rich ruby color....
The single vineyard PALAZZO Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (2012 not pictured) and the 2013 both have dark fruits- spicy-transportive aromas- leaning on the bold full body side-palate wise so they are hearty food pairers. The older 2012 has  licorice spice hints and is available now here. BOTH-limited availability (1500-1800 bottles)...produced by a boutique, family owned winery that only releases this wine in stellar years. Imported by Montcalm Wine Importers-the 2012 is available now
