|SPEED HIKING winners-230 SH Crosser Plus GTX® RR-name brand uppers of Cordura/Kevlar/Schoeller/Synthetic material, Gore-Tex® extended Comfort lining and Zamberlan® Vibram® Speed Hiking outsole-450 gram weight/size 42|
When we read about all the adventurers (and their Sherpa guides) that scaled the word's highest peaks -decades ago, what amazes us the most- is the fact that they did it with the footwear they had on. Even our hiking experiences have evolved greatly---over the past five years...with advances in comfort, fit and lighter weight kicks that are just as tough (and stable)...but much easier to wear.

We wrote up Zamberlan's Spring 2013 hiking boots-at that time-ALL new to us as a brand owned by 3rd generation Italian family...in the biz since 1929.
What we said then about the top-of-the heap construction values--- that distinguishes these boots from lesser priced competitors...
There's an abundance of tech features in each pair Zamberlan footwear--including task, anatomical and gender specific lasts and something called Foot Wrapping System- that shapes the upper (one piece of leather)-with special patented moulds. padded collar uppers, heel and toe cups with sculptured padding for protection and fit, anatomically designed footbeds that are removable/washable, Norwegian Welt construction "features two lines of stitching: the first fixes the upper to the midsole (which is specifically designed for this use), and the second fixes the upper to the insole, which will later be glued to the sole."...and most impressively Zamberlan Welted construction-a patent pending that "combines the strength and durability of Norwegian Welted construction with the lightness and comfort of a lasted construction boot. The upper is stitched to the specially made insole with a single stitch line and the upper adhesion area is then glued around the insole to form the body onto which the sole is attached." HydroBloc® treated leathers for enhanced water repellent, PLUS assorted 'systems' that guarantee the ideal flex, lateral support, and torsional stability and flexion at the foot’s natural flex point.
