Saloni Lodha is a young designer who has a following in India, Hong Kong and London (Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame is a fan).

Her presentation of S/S 2010 RTW in a garment center showroom during NYFW…was a winning bid to garner a few fans across the POND too.

There were several lovely dresses that we saw, modeled a few at a time…that we think have universal appeal for gals who want chic that's wearable. We never read the aforementioned action packed tales…but apparently the lavish illustrations were the source of inspiration.

One thing for sure---that popped for us, right away: the fabrics.

Romantic swirls, sparkling sequins, hand details (on a lily white cotton/silk look), and hand drawn print patterns made the well-tailored (special finishes liked zip taping---skills refined at Central St. Martins), feminine frocks a standout in a week where we saw lots of solid hues.

Although we didn’t see the entire collection- what we saw got approving nods from us.

In particular, the draped jersey dresses, and a pretty sleeveless sample with a deep scooped back…are modern day attire that work for the “city warrior” as well as for special occasions.

We hope to see more of Saloni on this side of the Atlantic.

AND: Appropriately, Saloni means beautiful in Sanskit…and she is!
