DOUGLAS HANNANT SPRING 2010

PLAZA HOTEL, NYC

Words, Images Judith Ecochard

Mannequins perched on white blocks, gazed down like Ancient Goddesses at the swarm of humans that flowed in to see the stunning Douglas Hannant Spring 2010 Collection.

(And a ha ha moment, the all female rock pop group-Bananarama take on “Venus” was playing in the background).

Twenty-one looks (labeled by letters “A” – “U” on the run of show)---were mostly for evenings out. Appropriately enough, many dresses reminded us of the highly skilled draped masterpieces that sprung forth from the glorious Madame Gres.

Soft pastels shades (butter yellow, lavender, mint green, frothy pink, and peach) interspersed with a smokey, foggy gray and white…lent the right tone to summery frocks.

Douglas Hannant, a fashion veteran, knows his customer and they came out in full force for this ---including NYC society types and some very blonde (expensive) Southern gals in a buzzy good mood---all ready to shop ---(perhaps at Hannant's Plaza Hotel boutique).

But don’t think it’s only the fictional Ladies Who Lunch chi-chi crowd who could wear these worldly gowns---- made from the finest organza and satin silks...

Any woman who wants to look beautiful (the silhouettes are very flattering) ---for her big night out…would do well to seek out this label.

SPECIAL: The bustle on a stunning laser floral print basketweave organza strapless gown.
