M BY KOSTAS MURKUDIS-“STREET AND EVENING”

By our count, thirty casual summer looks were languidly shown at the M by Kostas Murkudis runway show…and there wasn’t an “off’ ensemble in the bunch.

The press release on this collection describes the young designer’s modus operandi as “…carefully chosen masculine, active attributes create the exterior, the shell of “M”, and provide the necessary space for the interior, the feminine, the whole.”

OK. We figured some of the above was lost in translation-but our eyeballs certainly appreciated the subtle layers of silk chiffon and plush cashmere found in the modern tops, pants, and dresses-that epitomized understated chic.

In fact, we could see ourselves in many of the neutral toned basics-as the feel of Murkudis' output was that of one of our fashion idols…Helmut Lang.

One of our favorite separates was completely different in tone, however-from the rest of the line.

It was a rather vintage 40’s tweed blazer in a muted red/orange palette- with menswear-ish defined shoulders and wide lapels…that any Katherine Hepburn wanna-be would love.
